BIKE TO MARAS – MORAY, 1 DAY
Located at an altitude of 3,380 m.a.s.l., Maras is 48.10 km from Cusco when using the Izcuchaka-Chequered road and 48.88 km when travelling on the Chinchero route (this is the most used).
From the town of Maras there are two roads, one leads to the archaeological site of Moray and the other one to the salt mines of Maras, both of this roads have a distance of 2.5 miles.
The salt mines of Maras are and impressive complex of natural salt beds, located in an area named Qoripujio. These mines have been exploited since Inca times and continue as a thriving business today. You can walk down to the salt mines through a narrow path, and may find that you are walking with mules that still carry the salt being extracted from the natural salt mines.
