MANU NATIONAL PARK 4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS

DAY 1:

Depart from Cusco early in the morning in one of our vehicles specially equipped for the route. We drive through valleys, picturesque rural communities and visit the Pre-Inca tombs "Chullpas Ninamarca.".  At noon we pass Paucartambo, a typical colonial town of great importance in its era, and which still retains its colonial style. Continuing the journey, we ascend to the mountain pass Acjanacu, located  3,850 m.a.s.l. From here we will descend through the cloud forest and areas rich in a variety of species such as the spectacled bear, cock of the rock, orchids, bromeliads, and ferns. We spend our first night comfortably installed in our outdoor deck "San Pedro".

DAY 2:

Very early in the morning, you may be able to observe the interesting courtship dance of the Cock of the Rock, the national bird of Peru, often seen on an observation platform called "Lek". This bird has a striking plumage of intense red-orange feathers.  After breakfast we continue our bus ride through the high jungle, arriving at the town of Pilcopata and then continue to the port of Atalaya (700 m.a.s.l.), located along the Alto Madre de Dios River, where we meet our motor boat loaded with the equipment needed for the trip, thus beginning our descent down the river. Along the route we can see the enormous diversity of birds such as herons, vultures and cormorants. Finally we arrive at our private reserve "Erika" where we spend the next two nights.

Optional: From the town of Pilcopata wel travel approx. 3 hours by raft (Class II and III) on the tropical rivers Kosñipata and Alto Madre de Dios, past the spectacular Pongo de Koñeq where we stop for sightseeing and a dip in its waters, then continue on to reach our private reserve "Erika".

DAY 3:

Erika is located in a transition zone between high forest and lowland (600 m - 1,550 m), different altitudes give rise to different habitats, thus explaining the high diversity of wildlife around. After breakfast, we board our boat to sail for 5 minutes to cross the Madre de Dios river and walk for 30 minutes on an interesting path to observe the interesting fauna such as heliconias and fruit plantations to name a few. Down at the lagoon, we set up Machuwasi the telescope and see birds like herons, tucanetas, carpenter crestirojo, Kiskadee and cardinals.

Optional: New Canopy Tour: Our clients move from tree to tree and platform to platform using a horizontal cable harnesses with a rail system which glide rapidly over the treetops of this wonderful Amazon jungle. From here, you will see the incredible diversity of local flora and fauna. Expert guides assist you at all times during this exciting experience and explain to you everything of interest to be observed from the time you leave the ground until you rappel down from 30 meters.

DAY 4:

After breakfast, we board our boat to sail for 10 minutes to go to the “Clay Lick”, a clay wall of the river where different species of parrots, such as the Blue Headed Parrot, White Eyed Parakeets and possibly Maracano Macaw (Ara severa ) among others, go every morning to extract and lick clay pieces that contain the necessary minerals to their diet.
